R. Jean Roth
Graphic designer, writer, creative alchemist, Japan specialist, former resident of Tokyo and Tel-Aviv, multicultural citizen...
My apparel lines grew out of my graphic design business, Rotem Design Studio, which I established in 2002.
In 2003 I started designing primarily pop culture tee shirts, with a strong ethnic-global twist, infusing pop culture influences, American humor and the belief that an intelligent designer should be able to create a hip fashion tee with a clever and edgy design without being rude. Changes in the t-shirt market and over-saturation led me to explore creating an entirely different sort of line, and Rotem LE was launched in 2012.
With my cross-cultural personal and professional background, I’m drawn thematically to elements of global cultures – typography, patterns, symbols, as well as nature. Stylistically, for the most part I love space and simple, clean line––influences, no doubt, from both my background in Japanese and my work with architects.
I can’t wait to see what unfolds next.
